When clarity becomes a leadership skill
Discovery is the discipline of making the problem visible before proposing a solution. Consultants often hear a feature request and feel pressure to respond with features.
A more valuable response is to explore the context: the current process, the cost of the friction, the people affected and the evidence that would indicate success.
This does not mean interrogating the client.
It means using open questions, reflective listening and concise summaries.
When you say, “So the delay is not the approval itself; it is the lack of visibility before approval,” you give the client a chance to correct or confirm the diagnosis.
