When clarity becomes a leadership skill

A useful project update respects the reader’s attention. It does not list every activity; it explains what has changed and why it matters.

A clear update usually answers four questions: what is complete, what is in progress, what could change the plan, and what support is needed.

Neutral language is important when reporting a risk.

Saying that a dependency is “tracking two weeks late” is more actionable than saying that the project is “in trouble”.

Finish with an owner and a date.

This gives the stakeholder a practical way to help, while showing that the team is managing the situation rather than hiding it.
